{"id":911,"date":"2012-10-08T21:10:42","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T01:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.profligategrace.com\/?p=911"},"modified":"2012-10-08T21:12:38","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T01:12:38","slug":"restless-heart-syndrome-when-bad-movies-happen-to-good-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.profligategrace.com\/?p=911","title":{"rendered":"Restless Heart Syndrome: When Bad Movies Happen to Good People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '\/out\/www.ignatius.com\/promotions\/restless-heart-film\/']);\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.ignatius.com\/promotions\/restless-heart-film\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Restless Heart<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>is quite obviously a labor of love.\u00a0Someone really, really loves Augustine.\u00a0Writing critically about it, which I must do, feels a bit like complaining that someone\u2019s terribly earnest, harp-accompanied wedding was tacky, and too long.\u00a0Criticizing a wedding for lack of good taste is just churlish, because to evaluate aesthetically a service about love is a category error.\u00a0Love is patient; love is kind; love doesn\u2019t snicker when the caged doves inconveniently crap during the marital vows.<\/p>\n<p>But I knew I was in trouble from the first scene of this movie.\u00a0The vandals are set to sack Hippo, a wizened Augustine looks out onto the smoke-filled horizon, his raven-haired niece by his side, and a flock of migrating storks fly over.\u00a0Only the birds look like puppets, or badly digitized drawings\u2014something not realistic, anyway.\u00a0Groan.\u00a0Also, although film dubbing has obviously progressed since\u00a0<em>Godzilla<\/em>, not only do the lips not match the words, but the voices don\u2019t match the actors.
